Gavin Newsom, a leading Democratic figure, has revealed that he intends to make a decision about whether to run for president in 2028 once the 2026 elections wrap up.

"Absolutely, I couldn't be truthful if I denied it," Newsom commented when questioned about giving serious thought to a presidential run post the 2026 ballots. "I'd just be lying. And I won't do that."

Newsom's time in office as governor wraps up in early 2027, and term limits prevent another run. However, he emphasized that any choice is still years away.

"Fate will determine that," he remarked.

Growing Prominence as a Political Adversary

The California governor has come to the forefront as a prominent critic of the Trump administration, using his online platforms and advocating for a initiative that would expand the party's congressional seats in following GOP gerrymandering. This move has drawn criticism from critics.

Clash on Transportation

The former president's transportation chief, Sean Duffy, claimed that Newsom does not care about Californians in a Sunday appearance on Fox News. The secretary disclosed a strategy to cut taxpayer dollars from California and threatened eliminating the authority to issue trucking licenses.

"I'm about to pull $160 million from the state," Duffy said, after a recently reported fatal crash in California involving an undocumented semi truck driver that resulted in loss of life and casualties.

His administration pointed out that the national authorities had reauthorized the individual's authorization repeatedly, which permitted him to receive a CDL under federal law.

Duffy had previously stated he was blocking additional funds from the state for not enforcing English language requirements for CDL holders.

In recent years, public support for the governor has grown to an average of about one-third from previous levels, while his disapproval has decreased from an mean of over 40% to under 40%.

Earlier this year, the governor stated while visiting several key regions that he had "no clue" about his intentions for the next presidential election.

He mentioned his personal struggles, including being diagnosed with dyslexia at the young age of five.
