Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
