Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
