The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
